How Do I Turn Off Suggested Follow-Up Questions in Agent Chat?
Last updated: March 24, 2026
Agents show suggested follow-up questions after every response by default. You can turn this off from your agent's General Preferences — toggle off the "Follow-Up Prompts" switch.
What Are Follow-Up Prompts?
After your agent responds to a message, it can display up to three clickable follow-up suggestions beneath its reply. These are generated based on the conversation context and are designed to help guide the user's next question.
Follow-up prompts are enabled by default for all agents. If they feel unnecessary or distracting for your use case, you can disable them per agent.
How to Turn Them Off
Open your agent in Gumloop
Click the Settings tab (gear icon) in the agent configuration panel
Scroll to the General Preferences section
Find the Follow-Up Prompts toggle and switch it off
Save the agent

Good to Know
This setting is per agent — turning it off for one agent doesn't affect your other agents.
Follow-up prompts are only shown in the direct chat interface. They do not appear in Slack or API-based interactions.
You can turn them back on at any time by toggling the same switch.
